Changes in Immigration Law in July

From July 15, residence permit applications can be submitted no earlier than 90 days before the start date of the planned stay or permit expiry. The required daily financial coverage for entry will also increase significantly.
Application Deadlines for Residence Permits
As of July 15, applications for the issuance or extension of residence permits may be submitted no more than 90 days prior to the planned start date of the stay or the expiration date of the current permit. Additionally, the required daily financial coverage for entry into the country will significantly increase from that date.
Amendment to the Immigration Act’s Implementing Regulation
Section 216 of the implementing regulation of the Immigration Act will be supplemented with a new paragraph (8) as of July 15, which states:
"Unless otherwise provided by the Act or this regulation, applications for the issuance or extension of a residence permit may be submitted no more than 90 days before the planned start date of the stay, or in the case of an extension, no more than 90 days before the expiry of the current permit's validity."
Daily Financial Coverage Requirement Raised to 40 Euros
According to Section 24 of Decree 9/2024. (II.29.) of the Ministry of Interior, from July 15 onwards, the required financial coverage for entry into Hungary will be 40 euros per day of the planned stay. This represents a significant increase compared to the previous requirement of 10,000 HUF per entry.
