Residence permit expiring during the state of danger: extended validity

The validity period of those immigration documents that are going to be expired during the state of danger is extended.

Based on a decree declared by the Hungarian Government yesterday, the validity period of those immigration documents that are going to be expired during the “state of danger” is extended. The Hungarian Government declared a state of danger in the territory of Hungary for the elimination of the consequences of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus pandemic. The state of danger is in force from 4 November 2020. The new expiry date of the affected immigration documents will be 30 days later than the termination of the state of danger. These immigration documents are for example any type of residence permit, residence card, or permanent residence permit. The C-type and D-type Schengen Visa are not subject to this rule.

During the extended validity period, the given residence permit continues to entitle its holder to the same rights. E.g., a person, who holds a residence permit for other purpose, cannot be employed in Hungary by this residence permit type even if its validity is extended by the aforementioned government decree.
