Hungarian EEA Registration Certificate and Address Card for a Private Entrepreneur


General Description

An EEA Citizen staying more than 90 days (within any consecutive 180 days) in Hungary has to obtain an EEA Registration Certificate and report his/her first Hungarian address at the Immigration Office (official name: National Directorate-General for Aliens Policing) within 93 days counted from the date of crossing the Hungarian border when his/her Hungarian stay is expected to be more than 90 days within the mentioned 180-day period.

Validity period

Both the EEA Registration Certificate and the Hungarian Address Card are issued for an indefinite period of time.

Place of Application

Immigration Office (official name: National Directorate-General for Aliens Policing). The responsible directorate takes place according to the Hungarian address to be registered.

Government Fee

HUF 1 000.

Time period of decision-making

The EEA Registration Certificate is issued in the Immigration Office at the time of the application. The Hungarian Address Card is posted to the registered Hungarian address within circa 3 weeks from the date when the EEA Registration Certificate is issued.

Rights:

You have the right of free movement and stay. This right is not a resulted by the obtainment of the EEA Registration Certificate, but the fact that you are an EEA Citizen. Having the right of free movement and stay, you can perform studies (even in a state-funded program), being employed without working authorisation requirement and you can live with many further rights that the Hungarian citizens have.

Obligations:

  • Inform the Immigration Office if your EEA Registration Certificate, Address Card, ID card or Passport is stolen, lost or destroyed.
  • Report towards the Immigration Office if your EEA Registration Certificate, Address Card, ID card or Passport that was believed to be lost (and this fact was reported to the Immigration Office) was finally found.
  • Obtain a new EEA Registration Certificate, Address Card, ID card or Passport if your previous one were stolen, lost, destroyed or became invalid.

  • If you leave the territory of Hungary with final intention, you can hand over your EEA Registration Certificate and Address Card to the Immigration Office.
