The Hungarian Government would tighten the immigration law

The Government has submitted a new bill to tighten the residence of third-country nationals in Hungary and put it on a completely new legal basis.

The Government has submitted a new bill on the 14th of November, which would tighten the residence of third-country nationals in Hungary and put it on a completely new legal basis. The new legislation will also apply to guest workers.

According to the justification of the bill the current legal regulation does not meet the requirements set by modern migration challenges.

One of the basic principles of the proposal is that unlimited residence is not a fundamental right of third-country national, it cannot be unlimited under any legal title, and the extension of their residence permits cannot be automatic. The proposal comprehensively defines the legal titles of the residence and the term of the stay of the third country nationals.

Guest workers will also be subject to the planned new immigration law which is expected to enter into force on the 1st of September next year.
