Residence permit types for working purposes in Hungary

If you stay in Hungary more than 90 days (counted within any consecutive 180 days), you have to obtain a residence permit in principle. For working purpose, there is a great variety of residence permits. Th most appropriate or convenient one depends on many factors, e.g., the nature of your work, the framework of your employment, your qualification, salary amount, job position, duration of your employment, etc.

  • The legal relation between you and a Hungarian Organisation aims at employment.
  • You perform your work under the direction of someone else.
  • If you are an Executive Officer of a business organisation, cooperative or other for-profit entity, you have further working responsibilities beyond the executive officer role.

    General Conditions:
  • You have a higher education degree.
  • The work requires the qualification acquired during your higher education studies.
  • Your prospective gross salary amount will be more than HUF 658,200 (circa EUR 1,700). In some job positions this salary amount can be lower.

    Who can be considered Manager, Specialist or Trainee?
    At the Hungarian Company you have to be in a Manager, Specialist or Trainee position. The local rules specify the requirements of these positions. Please see these definitions under "Details & Pricing" of this residence permit category.

    How to calculate the maximum of six months within any 12 months period?
    Both the number of days spent with seasonal work in the past and the days intended to spend with seasonal work in the future has to be taken into consideration. In any period that covers 12 months (e.g., covering both the past and the future) cannot include more days spent with seasonal work than 6 months.
