EEA Registration Certificate and Address Card for a Researcher in Hungary


EEA Registration Certificate & Address Card (Researcher's obligation):

An EEA Citizen staying more than 90 days in Hungary has to obtain an EEA Registration Certificate and report his/her Hungarian address. Both obligations have to be made at the Immigration Office (official name: National Directorate-General for Aliens Policing) within 93 days counted from the date of crossing the Hungarian border when the Hungarian stay is expected to be more than 90 days within any consecutive 180 days.

    Notifications (Higher Education Institution's Obligation):

    Higher Education Institution employing a Researcher with EEA citizenship has immigration relatied notification obligation towards the Immigration Office when the employment of the Researcher starts or fails before it would start. In addition, the Higher Education Institution also has notification obligation towards the Government Office on starting or ending the employment relationship. From this latter obligation the Employer is exempt if the Researcher is assigned from another EEA Country (i.e. he/she performs her/hes activity on the basis of his/her employment contract with a different organisation seated in another EEA country) or the employment relationship between the Higher Education Institution and the Researcher does not exist at all.
