On a general basis, a third-country national has to obtain a residence permit if he/she expects to stay in Hungary more than 90 days within a 180-day period. However, in some cases (e.g., due to being a Family Member of an EEA Citizen) other type(s) of immigration document(s) (a Residence Card) has to be obtained. Please see more details on obtaining a "Residence Card for a Researcher".
Residence permit for the purpose of Research can be otained only if hosting institution (where the Researcher intends to work in Hungary) is accredited by the National Research, Development and Innovation Office. The list of these accredited organisations can be found at the following link at "Register of accredited research organisations (currently valid certificates)" section:
If you intend to employ a Researcher, but your organisation is not an accredited research organisation, please contact us to discuss the appropriate permit to apply for. However, if your Researcher is entitled to apply for a Residence Permit for the Purpose of Research, we help her/him obtain it according to the description below.
In case of more than one Researcher, we provide discount from our standard price of EUR 1,000*.
Higher Education Institution employing a third-country national Researcher has to notify the Immigration Office if the third-country national Researcher starts working, does not start his/her authorised work or the work is cancelled within his/her planned time-period. In addition, if your Higher Education Institution qualifies as an accredited research organisation, your Institution has to notify the Government Office on the start or end of the Researcher's work.
We help you to clarify which type of immigratioin and working-authorisation related notifications have to be made by you and we also assist you in fulfilling these obligations according to the description below.
In case of more than one notification, we provide discount from our standard price of EUR 50*.
A Third-country National has to fulfill a deregistration process if his/her residence permit becomes invalid (i.e., it expires, or the Researcher gives up his/her Hungarian stay earlier than the residence permit's expiry date, or the conditions underlying the issuance of the residence permit has ceased to exist). As part of this process, the residence permit has to be handed over to the competent directorate of the Immigration Office. In case of a residence permit extension, the old residence permit has to be handed over to the Immigration Office at the same time, when the new one is collected (in this case our deregistration service below is not necessary).
We help your Researcher meet this deregistration requirement according to the description below.
In case of more than one deregistration, we provide discount from our standard price of EUR 50*.
